Beginning of TortoiseClimbing

TortoiseClimbing™ was created in 1993 as part of privately releasing the 1st album, Solo Collection. The original conservative goals/mission were to produce:

  1. Nice albums, for
  2. Private release to friends and family.

Early Experiences Included:

Initially, Mr. Bill McElroy was David's chief audio engineer and associate producer.

Bill was one of the two partners who established Bias. (For details on Bill McElroy, see Bill McElroy.) Bill was assisted from time to time by their then new employee that Bill was helping mentor, Ms. Heidi Gerber-Salins. (She replaced Mr. McElroy as David's chief audio engineer at Bias when Mr. McElroy left Bias.)

The first private album was released in the then still rather popular cassette format, although CDs were also doing quite well. The solo ballads were at least 50% American Standards, recorded dominantly with piano accompaniments, and are from shortly before, during, and the decade or so after the World War II.

In addition to creating TortoiseClimbing™ as part of privately releasing that 1st private recording, David also:

Subsequent Upgrade in Goals

A significant upgrade in the goals/mission occurred in 1998, as part of making the album Hymns and Songs of My Mother. The goals/mission were upgraded to:

  1. Produce outstanding recordings;
  2. For public release.

Additionally as part of producing Hymns and Songs of My Mother, Ms. Gerber-Salins the producer of Phase I, educated David to the value of:

An impact of upgrading its mission/goals following creation of the 1st private album, and learning more technical knowledge of production and post production, is TortoiseClimbing Audio™ has acquired the software and knowledge to perform post production inhouse to rework the original masters. We are applying that knowledge to post production process, remix and remaster our back catalogue of songs to meet our higher audio standards for public release.)

TortoiseClimbing Audio™ has completed post production processing of songs recorded with friends before the Solo Collection album, as well as the songs on that album. (The first EP of 5 American Standard songs from that group it targeted for public release, summer of 2026.)

Another step in upgrading the draft Romantic Duets album was completed 5-18-2022. Namely, the master analogue tapes were decoded from the Dolby A noise reduction encoding and converted to digital. With releases of the album Hymns and Songs of My Mother (2024) and the mini-EP Welcome Home (2026), we have turned to upgrading the original songs with friends and the Solo Collection album, by:

  • Post production processing,
  • Augmenting or replacing accompaniments,
  • Remixing, and
  • Remastering.

-- End of Window Application of Techniques --

During the time David recorded at Bias Recording Studio, he had the privilege of working with 2 wonderful engineers and producers. See some facts about them at Colleagues.
